Delimited in the north by the cape Muro and in the south by the Campomoro point,
the gulf of Valinco offers the traditional decoration in Corsica of viewpoints
intersected with beaches, while the scrubs, where the oak trees and the
cane-apple bushes prevail, extend to sea level.
7 km from the commercial port of Propriano - Olmeto is the Chief town of the
district, having 18 km of coastline (Olméto Plage).
Olmeto is an old picturesque and quiet borough, fixed on
mountainside, which dominates the splendid gulf of Valinco. In addition to its
privileged situation, which also makes the beauty of this village, they are its
houses with the high stone frontages and the old red tiled roofs, its arched
passages, its lanes paved out of rough stone, its torres protected by
machicolations and loopholes. In the discovery of this village, one can go up
time by visiting certain places in charge of his history, such as the vestiges
of the last convent which the capuchins built in Corsica in 1711. Or the
Sainte-Marie church, parish church of Romance style of IXème century, where one
can admire splendid organ going back to 1850.
Olmeto is the starting point of beautiful excursions for those who wish to
journey outward and to discover places loaded with history, and to accomplish a
voyage in time.
